LUCAS is a mobile lung cancer screening unit that was created by the WVU Cancer Institute. Each year they travel to West Virginia’s most rural communities to provide a comfortable and accessible screening. We wanted to highlight this resource because we feel strongly about getting screened and checked early for cancer.
As contributing sponsors to this meaningful mission, we have learned that since 2021 they have found 40 lung cancers and 10 other types of cancers. These screenings could mean all the difference to you and your loved ones and is why we wish to encourage you to get checked.
According to LUCAS, these are the requirements to receive their lung cancer screening:
- Are age 50 to 80
- Currently smoke or quit within the past 15 years
- Have a >20 pack/year smoking history
- Have no symptoms of lung cancer
